Doll Clothes

About  a month ago, I was sitting in my preschool class asking each one of my kiddos what they got for Christmas. There were a few of the little girls who said that they had gotten American Girl Dolls.  They were so excited, and they loved to talk about their dolls.  I felt a twinge of nostalgia, and it got me thinking.  My sewing machine and I have always had a good relationship.  I used to sew clothes for my girls (#1 and #2) when they were little.  My "little" girls are now in college and high school.

I started sewing doll clothes a few years ago when my youngest daughter (#3)  really wanted an American Girl Doll for Christmas. Because our funds were VERY limited that year, we couldn't afford a real American Girl Doll, but we were able to find a cute 18" doll with blonde hair and blue eyes that matched my daughter's.  Then I got busy sewing.  I had never sewn doll clothes before, but I found that I honestly enjoyed it.  There was something about creating again--taking raw material and transforming it into something beautiful.  I was hooked. Then my baby daughter grew up to the ripe old age of 11,  and her dolls remained untouched under her bed.  So I stopped sewing.

Fast forward to that day in my preschool class.  As these darling little girls lit up when they talked about their dolls, I felt that spark inside my soul to create again. And I realized that my talents were not inseparably tied to the ages and likes of my kids.  Even though my girls had outgrown the precious doll age, I could still sew for those who hadn't.

So, this is where I am today.  I am doing this because I love creating. I am doing this because I love to sew.  I am doing this because it something that I want to do, for me.  I am doing this because even at the ripe old age of 42, I still love dolls and their clothes.   I'm even thinking of buying myself a doll!  A real American Girl doll.

I am planning on coming out with a few new designs every month, but I can make any dresses from past months, as long as the fabric is still available.

                                                                 My February dresses!

The Valentine Dress. I love this one. The red overlay on the skirt has glittery red hearts all over it, and
the heart on the bodice is a darling button I was thrilled to find.
$15

The much requested "pink dress."  This is a unique shade of pink that I searched for through
3 different fabric stores. The dress has a glittery mesh overlay on the skirt, a ribbon around the waist with a big bow on the back, and a pink chiffon flower on the waistband.
$15

I love this dark pink, shiny dress.  It has a floor length skirt, bodice with sleeves,
and delicate black lace on the ends of the sleeves.
$15

These are my January dresses, but they are all still available.
The chevron one was the best seller, by far!
They are all $15.

I had a few people ask about a "baptism dress," so this was the result.
It is made of silky white fabric, with a beautiful white on white organza overlay on the skirt,
and a sparkly button right in the middle of the waistband.
This dress is available all year long.
$20
